International Day Of Peace marked at Eaton Hall with Gamston School

Staff and pupils of Gamston School spend afternoon at Jamia Al-Karam and Eaton Church

On Wednesday 21 September 2016, Jamia Al-Karam welcomed the staff and pupils of Gamston CofE Aided Primary School for an afternoon of reflection to mark the International Day of Peace. The General Assembly of the United Nations has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.

The afternoon consisted of a collective assembly in the mosque hall of Jamia Al-Karam, which was followed by various sessions for different age groups to reflect on the centrality of peace in the religions of Islam, Judaism and Christianity. Sessions were led by Imam Hafiz Gul Muhammad (senior lecturer of Jamia Al-Karam), Canon Andrew Woodsford (Gamston School) and Minister Angela Morfett-Jones (Eaton Church). This was followed by a walk through Eaton village with a session at the Eaton Church. Upon return to Jamia Al-Karam, refreshments were provided to all.

The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyable and informative for all participants with the key theme of peace in our world being at the heart of the activities. We are grateful to Bakhtyar Pirzada al-Azhari (vice-principal of Jamia Al-Karam) and Mr David Fotheringham (headteacher of Gamston School) for organising the event. The event also provided an opportunity for the guests to meet the founder of Jamia Al-Karam, Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada, and the school was gifted with some of his recent publications.
